I am a marketer... what's in this for me?

Marketing teams are the ones who directly communicate with the people we design for, so it makes sense that marketing teams should be involved with design decisions that will ultimately be shown to our audiences.

So let us start with what a design system is.

What is a design system?

A design system is a single hub where all design direction and execution guidelines are agreed to ensure all future work produced is consistent in colors, styles, and brand positioning. In addition it ensures best practices and security, and unifies the 3 pillars of building great websites together - marketing, design and code.

The best design systems include:

  1. Typography choices
  2. Colour palettes
  3. Design principles – things like contrast levels, repetition rules and white space requirements
  4. Brand guidelines on messaging and the feeling any design work should evoke
  5. Any reusable components – such as buttons or line breaks

And more.

Start with the foundations and voice and tone

The foundations section outlines the basic patterns used by our design system. It includes the basic items outlined above.

The voice and tone section outlines how Boystown keeps its copy and communications in a single voice.

Understand how the CMS works

Skip down to the section labeled Agility Page Components.
Read through the intro page and then through the various components available.

Make sure you understand that Boystown's web pages are nothing more than a list of Agility Page components - one below the other.

note: Agility CMS is our content management system.
